BARTON LIBRARY
ETYMOLOGY:
The state's first Library was built in Bhavnagar. It was named after the political agent Colonel Barton.
SIGNIFICANT HISTORY:
Bhavnagar was a sophisticated and intelligent state governed by a number of powerful monarchs, divans, and counsellors. There was a time when reading, growing, and obtaining information were in high demand.
As a result, late Diwan Gaurishankar Oza constructed "Shri Chhaganbhai Desai Library" in C.E. 1860 to satiate Bhavnagar's need for knowledge. However, because the library was limited, the poet Dalpatram approached Maharaja Takhtsinhji Gohil for a larger library with more volumes.
Maharaja Takhtsinhji Gohil inaugurated the library on December 30, 1882, and named it after English political agent Colonel L. C. Barton.
ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN:
Sims, a British governmental engineer of the time, was the visionary behind Barton Library and a number of other structures that still stand the testimony of time in Bhavnagar.
Burmese wood is of such high quality that it has escaped harm. Windows are arranged in such a way that natural light is ample for sitting and reading even when there is no power. There are two ceilings and one floor in this room.
The tower's summit is also accessible through a magnificent spiral staircase. From the summit, you may get a panoramic view of the city as well as see some old structures. The vision of building this a century ago is pathbreaking.
CURRENT SITUATION:
It has 600 members and almost 70,000 books.
Books include 1800-year-old Bhavnagar Gazettes, historical literature, and the Rajkumar College 40-year series.
A museum that displayed antiquities was also mentioned in the state archives. Antiques have recently been shifted to the Gandhi Memorial Museum.
Barton Library is now accessible to the public and annual as well as life memberships are available. You’ll be greeted with natural ventilation and cheerful smiles!

આર્કિટેક્ચર અને ડિઝાઇન:
સિમ્સ, તે સમયના બ્રિટિશ સરકારી એન્જિનિયર, બાર્ટન લાઇબ્રેરી અને અન્ય નવીન રચનાઓના આર્કિટેક્ટ હતા.
બર્મીઝ લાકડું ઉચ્ચ ગુણવત્તાનું છે વિન્ડોઝ એવી રીતે ગોઠવવામાં આવે છે કે પાવર ન હોય ત્યારે પણ બેસવા અને વાંચવા માટે કુદરતી પ્રકાશ પૂરતો હોય. આ રૂમમાં બે છત અને એક માળ છે.
ટાવરની સમિટ અદભૂત સર્પાકાર સીડી દ્વારા પણ સુલભ છે. શિખર પરથી, તમે શહેરનું મનોહર દૃશ્ય તેમજ કેટલીક જૂની રચનાઓ જોઈ શકો છો. એક સદી પહેલા આ બધું કરવાનો કોન્સેપ્ટ લાજવાબ છે
વર્તમાન પરિસ્થિતિ:

રાજ્યના આર્કાઇવ્સમાં પ્રાચીન વસ્તુઓ દર્શાવતા સંગ્રહાલયનો પણ ઉલ્લેખ કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો. પ્રાચીન વસ્તુઓને તાજેતરમાં ગાંધી સ્મારક સંગ્રહાલયમાં ખસેડવામાં આવી છે.
