THE GOHIL DYNASTY

MADE ITS WAY TO BHAVNAGAR IN 1723 FROM THE FORTIFIED TOWN OF SIHOR.

The close proximity to the sea was one of the many factors that influenced Maharaja Bhavsinhji Gohil to build his empire here. With wise and just rulers who believed in social reformation and knowledgable advisors who laid the groundwork, Bhavnagar soon became a flourishing port. The city was built strategically with great foresight.

Each citizen was looked after with the latest medical facilities, enough food and water supply to sustain the population in the worst of scenarios.

Good governance further went on to the creation of majestic public buildings, ornate structures and a diverse habitat for animals, flora and fauna to survive in the heart of the city.

In recent times, rapid urbanisation has led to unplanned development, the deterioration and destruction of beautiful buildings and houses and a shortage in natural resources that were once found in abundance.

What we are now left with is a cornucopia of cultural, natural, tangible and intangible heritage. One, which if  preserved and built on would continue to benefit the local population as well as the incoming national and international tourists.
